While I am not unhappy with the service that Blogger provides, I want the independence of having my own site and configuring it to my liking.

Of course, the moving process has just begun, and as usual, run into some technical snags. From experiece, the only thing I know that's worth saving is the bookmarks I have collected (and sorted) over time. So the bookmarks were duly exported and I was pleased.

Over the last week or so, I have noticed that if I have an open tab or two and then open Gmail in a new tab, Firefox crashes. As a smart person, I have the session restore  extension installed. It manages to catch the failed session and restore it. Unfortunately, the reloaded session also crashes.

The problem is that I am sorely tempted to buy it - even though I have a perfectly good laptop. Why? Well, first of all it's a Mac - well, that's not exactly a reason. But who cares - human beings are illogical creatures.

One of them - for me - is Winamp. Been using it for such a long time that it seems like a permanent fixture on my computer.

Wierd outages : Was trying to update my blog a few days back. It updated and then told me to republish my index 10 minutes later. I tried in half an hour - only to get the same message again. I will be installing Fedora Core 4 on my system today. Need it for a couple of courses I am taking this semester.

In the windowing system department, I've always been a little biased towards the KDE environment as compared to Gnome. Just a personal preference. The good folks at KDE are picking up their game. Version 3.5.1 was released recently and had a nice set of features/fixes.

Here's a solution for all the times that you want to use a messenger system on another computer - or in college where IMs are more or less banned.

It's called Meebo, and it works like a charm. Simply type in your username/password for the account(s) of your choice - and presto! instant messaging in all it's glory.
